Chipper Shredders

!±8± Chipper Shredders

Working on your garden or backyard to clear down any unruly bushes, trees or plants is back breaking work!  Not only do you have to cut the stuff down, you also have to dispose of it too in an environmentally compatible manner too.

This is where owning a chipper or shredder will come in handy. These small, portable units will break down small branches and plants into smaller pieces so that they can be reused ore recycled in many different ways.

For example, a branch from a tree can be turned into wood chipping to be used a decorative layer on top of your flower beds or if you have lots of trees and branches to shred, it can be used to create an area where children can play safely.  Any softer material such as plants and shrubs can be broken down by a chipper shredder into a fine or coarse mulch which is then perfect for spreading onto your plants and pots to be used as a natural fertilizer.  Just mix up the shredded plant with some water and leave to soak and compost in a warm place and you will have a perfect locally made and compatible product to help your replacement plants grow.

Chipper Shredders come in all shapes and sizes, from small portable plastic ones designed for home use only, which use tough nylon string to thresh the waste you feed into it into smaller pieces all the way through to larger electric wood chippers that are towed by a vehicle and ones designed for industrial shredding for landscapers and environmental contractors.  In the middle ground of this range there are many wood chippers and shredders that are designed to break down the majority of what is put into them.  They are designed to take branches of no larger thickness than 2 inches and quite happily shred all manner of other garden waste with no problems at all.

Products by Bear Cat or Craftsman are perfect for this and will last you for years and years.   A leaf shredder is also a perfect choice for those with larger gardens that feature trees that shed their leaves.  Pop the leaves into the shredder and they are reduced at an amazing rate.  The leaves are perfect for composting or adding to a mulch, but the shredded leaves are easily disposed of too.

Why not make it a communal purchase.  Get together with your neighbors and buy a garden shredder between you and then share it around.  It makes perfect sense to part own a chipper shredder as it is not needed all year round.
